
SUBANG JAYA: The Road Transport Department (RTD) and the National Registration Department have deployed mobile counters to assist victims of the Putra Heights gas pipeline fire to print their essential documents.Transport Minister Anthony Loke said at the RTD counter, victims can reprint their driving licence, road tax and vehicle ownership certificates for insurance compensation purposes."These documents can be printed for free, without bureaucracy or the need for a police report," he said.
"Normally, victims would need to submit a police report, but now that is not required."They only need to provide their names and MyKad number," he added after visiting the temporary relief centre at the Putra Heights Mosque.Loke added that Prasarana Malaysia Bhd has also deployed six vans to transport victims to retrieve their belongings from their homes, if permitted by the authorities, as well as to LRT stations or other locations.
He said Prasarana staff, in addition to assisting with logistics, will also aid in providing counselling to the victims.Some Prasarana staff, including bus and train drivers, were among those affected by the Tuesday morning blast.As of 8am today, 311 persons from 84 families are taking refuge at the relief centre here.
An inferno erupted on Tuesday morning following a leak in a gas pipeline in Putra Heights, destroying hundreds of homes and vehicles in nearby villages and residential areas and leaving scores of people injured.On Tuesday, a massive fire broke out at a Petronas gas pipeline in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, causing widespread panic as flames shot up in the air.The heat from the flames — visible from kilometres away — was said to have melted plastic and metal located within a wide radius of the pipeline.
The fire was reported to have been accompanied by several explosions that shook the ground. The flames set off fires in several houses as the pipeline is located near residential areas.Investigations into the cause of the incident are still ongoing.
