Pune: The city crime branch claimed to have recovered Rs1.56 lakh out of the Rs5-lakh contract Mohini Wagh (48) paid to the five men arrested in connection with the conspiracy, abduction and murder of her husband, Satish Satba Wagh (58). The crime branch personnel said investigations revealed that Mohini paid Rs 5lakh to their former tenant, Akshay Jawalkar, to execute the conspiracy to murder her husband Wagh, uncle of Maharashtra Legislative Council member Yogesh Tilekar, through the four men.
Five men had abducted Manjari-based farmer-cum-businessman Wagh in a car from a spot near Hotel Blueberry at Manjari Farms in the Hadapsar area around 6am on Dec 9. An eyewitness told the police that the car drove towards Solapur. The same evening, Wagh was found murdered at Shindawane, about 45km from the city.
The officials said the investigation officer had recovered a stick, a knife, a car and a motorcycle used by the assailants in the crime, and the victim's gold ring. The call details of the cellphones of the six suspects were being analysed. The court of judicial magistrate first class Pracheta Rathod on Monday sent Mohini and five others in magisterial custody for 14 days.
Assistant public prosecutor Jyoti Waghmare recommended their magisterial custody and informed the court that the police reserved the right to secure their custodial remand at a later stage when required. The suspects were later sent to the Yerawada central prison..
