Rs 55L drug case: Nigerian among 2 held in Mum

Surat: The crime branch of Surat city police arrested two persons, including a Nigerian national, in the Rs 55 lakh MD seizure case of Nov 16. The accused, Ajay Gulla Thakur and Nigerian national David Prince Uche, were nabbed from Nala Sopara area of Mumbai Metropolitan Region. They both had supplied MD drug to three accused nabbed by the crime branch earlier.

On Nov 16, the crime branch police had nabbed Irfan Pathan, Tausif Rafiq Sha, and Asfaq Kureshi from the Kapletha village check-post in Sachin during an early morning operation. The accused were caught with 554g of MD drug worth Rs 55.48 lakh, along with their sedan car.



During questioning, they confessed to have brought the MD from Mumbai. Based on their confession, Surat crime branch raided Nala Sopara area of Mumbai. The police first nabbed history-sheeter Thakur from Nala Sopara, who supplied the MD to the three accused.

Thakur told police that he had bought the MD from Uche, who resided in Priyanka Apartment of Nala Sopara. On Tuesday night, the crime branch team raided the apartment and nabbed Uche. During investigation, police found that Uche was lodged in Kolhapur jail from 2015 to 2019 in a cheating case registered at Kandivali police station.

Thakur had a case under the Arms Act registered at Virar police station. Accused Ketan Vekariya was absconding after police found Rs 111 crore cheating transactions in the racket.

Vekariya would arrange bank account holders and give them Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 for use of their accounts. He sent the details of the accounts to Dubai-based Milan Darji, who is yet to be arrested..
