The iconic Royal Enfield Classic 650 is here. It comes with its iconic styling, bigger engine and of course, undeniable road presence. It is the heaviest motorcycle in Royal Enfield's portfolio, starting at ₹3.37 lakh ex-showroom. Can it recreate the magic of the Royal Enfield 350 Classic?

Royal Enfield has introduced the Classic 650, a motorcycle that takes the familiar design of the much-loved Classic 350 and blows it up into a bigger, more powerful package. While it stays true to the silhouette and styling cues of the original Classic—like the casket headlamp, tiger lamps and signature paint schemes—the Classic 650 is bulkier, more imposing, and brings in a modern touch with LED lighting all around. Underneath that familiar design is a platform that’s shared with Royal Enfield’s Shotgun and Super Meteor.

It runs on the same 650cc twin-cylinder engine, a tubular spine frame, and produces the same power and torque—around 47PS and 52.3Nm—with a 6-speed gearbox. However, the Classic 650 isn’t just a rebadge.

Despite sharing the mechanical base, it has its own unique personality, thanks to some subtle but smart changes. In terms of size, the Classic 650 is longer, taller and wider than the Shotgun. It also sits slightly higher, with a seat height of 800mm and 14mm more ground clearance.

These adjustments, along with a traditional telescopic 43mm front fork instead of upside-down forks, add around 3kg to the overall weight—making it the heaviest bike in the 650 family. The focus on retaining the classic charm also reflects in the suspension setup. The bike gets a traditional telescopic front fork with 120mm of travel and twin rear shocks with 90mm of travel.

This setup helps maintain the retro feel while keeping comfort in check. Tires and brakes are different too. The Classic 650 uses a 19-inch front and 18-inch rear wheel combination, paired with a 320mm front disc and a 300mm rear disc—again, different from the Shotgun’s configuration, reinforcing its standalone character.

In short, the Classic 650 offers the old-school charm of the Classic 350, with the added performance and road presence of Royal Enfield’s 650-twin family.
