The Manchester United legend dropped by the Old Mill Confectionery to meet staff

Roy Keane paid a surprise visit to a Cork bakery recently and stunned staff. The Manchester United legend dropped by the Leeside's Old Mill Confectionery last week for a chat with Daniel Buckley, who took over the business last summer. Keane stuck around for a tour and to meet the staff helping stock pastries and sweet treats in supermarkets across Cork.

And it was a very special occasion for one worker, Aida, who was celebrating her 25th year of working at the bakery on the same day. She and everyone else had a chance to grab a one-on-one pic with the Mayfield man - a rare opportunity indeed, as Roy's made it clear he's not a huge fan of selfies in the past, reports Cork Beo. Keano left later that morning, carrying a large box full of free cakes and a range of other goodies.

Owner Daniel himself sadly wasn't there for the surprise visit as he had just popped out, but he later got a phone call from Roy wishing him all the best with the new business. Speaking to CorkBeo, Daniel revealed it wasn't his first time talking with football legend. He had bumped into Roy in the city months before after seeing him eating Old Mill treats on an episode of The Overlap podcast.

He said: "I told him I saw him eating Old Mill stuff and said I actually owned that business now. He said he'd call into me someday, but that was months ago. He came in out of the blue then, obviously to wish everyone the best, was chatting to all the lads.

It was a great boost for staff morale as well, his presence gave everyone a real buzz. "I'm gutted to have missed him - he's my idol ever since I was a child. But even for him to turn up at my business now is unbelievable.

" But believe it or not, this isn't the only surprise visit Roy made on Leeside this month. He also took time out of his busy schedule to meet one of his biggest fans, Pat, who is currently a patient at the Mercy Hospital. Pat's son Rob had reached out to RedFM Breakfast with KC head producer Victoria Nichols in the hopes of getting in touch with Roy and asking him to record a personal message for their dad.

The request eventually reached Keane, who decided to go above and beyond for the O'Sullivan family by calling into Pat's hospital room at the Mercy - something Rob said is a moment he and his father will never forget.
