The 53-year-old took time out of his busy schedule to surprise dementia patient Pat O'Sullivan with an unannounced appearance at Mercy Hospital in Cork. It comes after Pat's family initially reached out to Cork's Red FM to request a video message for their dad.
Instead of sending a video, Keane went above and beyond as he flew out to Cork to meet his supporter in person. Pat's son Rob O'Sullivan said: 'Roy Keane walked into my dad's hospital room and shook his hand. I have no words.
'I don't know what I was ever expecting out of it, and that's being honest. 'You have absolutely no idea (how much that meant).
It still feels like a dream. 'When I looked at him, I was in awe. I couldn't believe he was right in front of me and about to make my dad's dream come true.
Rob also added that his dad's dementia has deteriorated since meeting Keane, saying: 'My dad cried twice. He fully understood Roy was there. Since I last spoke to you guys, my dad's speech has actually gone really bad.
'So the timing was perfect since he and Roy could actually have a bit of a conversation. 'My dad looked at him, stared at him and just couldn't believe his hero was there sat next to him.' Meanwhile, the radio station lauded Keane for the 'KINDEST GESTURE'.
