SINCLAIRVILLE, N.Y. — A crash and a gasoline spill Saturday morning on State Route 60 prompted a mandatory water conservation order for people in the Village of Sinclairville.

The crash happened around 10:30 a.m. Saturday on Route 60, and officials soon closed the road between Gerry-Levant Road and Bloomer Street in Gerry.

The crash involved a tanker truck hauling gasoline. The Chautauqua County Health Department on Saturday evening issued a statement, asking all Sinclairville residents who use the village system to conserve water. "The village is shutting down the main water wells that supply the village until officials can verify that water from those sources has not been contaminated," the health department said.

"The village has two other wells that will be used to supply customers with water. However, the remaining wells cannot keep up with peak demand." With that in mind, the health department is asking people who are impacted to do the following: If you have any questions or concerns, you're urged to contact the Chautauqua County Health Department at 716-753-4481 or check the health department website for more details.
