New Delhi: Public Works Department will construct 34 digital courtrooms at the already existing Rouse Avenue court complex. Delhi govt recently approved the construction of a new court complex, which will have these facilities. However, the existing building will be revamped.

These new courtrooms will be constructed at a cost of Rs 7 crore. To enhance the justice delivery system with the help of technology, Indian judiciary has been pushing for more digitisation of courts. Earlier this year, Tis Hazari court got a hybrid court, which was inaugurated with an artificial intelligence-based ‘speech to text' facility.

For Rouse Avenue court, which is in Central Delhi, PWD has invited bids to set up these rooms on the seventh floor of the building. The digital courtrooms would be equipped with diverse tools and have documentation process in digital format, CCTV camera systems, thermal scanners, a video wall, and other amenities. After observing that there is a requirement for additional courtrooms along with the new recruitment of judicial officers to fill up the vacancies against the sanctioned strength, Delhi govt in 2019 commenced the project of constructing rooms at existing court complexes.

Delhi finance minister Atishi has given her approval to the construction of a new court complex at Rouse Avenue at a cost of Rs 427 crore. The proposal was brought before Expenditure Finance Committee, which approved the construction of 55 courtrooms in the new district court complex..
