Bentley Johnson scored his fourth and final run out of the leadoff spot on Jake Fabbro’s two-run double Monday, clinching the Granville Christian baseball team’s 11-1 victory against visiting Delaware Christian in Mid-Ohio Christian Athletic League play.Johnson also struck out eight and allowed no earned runs in four two-hit innings, and Josh Benvie struck out all three batters in relief for the Lions (4-0, 2-0). Fabbro recorded two hits, two runs and three RBIs, and Johnson added a triple, Layton Sheppard a two-run single and Jordan Stump a hit and an RBI.
Newark wins on roadMoses Crane totaled two hits, two runs and two RBIs for Newark in a 14-1 win at Groveport to begin Ohio Capital Conference-Buckeye Division play.Luke Miller added two hits, a run and an RBI, Brody Driskel a hit, a run and three RBIs, Bodie Smith a hit, a run and two RBIs and Carter Lovell a hit, two runs and an RBI for the Wildcats (1-2, 1-0). Evan Humphrey and Hunter Hammond combined to strike out five in three innings.
Valley rallies lateCarter Sopher’s RBI single highlighted a two-run top of the seventh inning, lifting Licking Valley to a 2-1 victory at Mount Vernon in the Licking County League-Buckeye Division opener.Evan Lichtenauer opened the inning with a single, and Brody Lambert later walked and scored on an error for the Panthers (3-1, 1-0), who also received a double from Brody Rodgers. Lichtenauer struck out 10 and allowed just an unearned run in a five-hitter.
Heath beats JohnstownTannar Patterson notched a hit, two runs and an RBI for Heath in an 8-5 victory against visiting Johnstown to open LCL-Cardinal play.Preston DeVito added two hits and an RBI, Cam Stephens a double, a run and two RBIs and Kevin Dunlap a hit and a run for the Bulldogs (2-0, 1-0). DeVito struck out three and allowed five hits and one earned run in 5 1/3 innings.
Sam Marasek led the Johnnies with two hits, including a double, a run and two RBIs, and Braeden Archibald added three hits, including two doubles, and a run. Brownfield’s hit followed hits by Sydney Cottrill and Bella Metcalf, and the Blue Aces (4-2, 1-0) previously tied the game in the seventh on Aubrey Lackey’s two-run double following hits by Megan Lodge and Sophia Patena. Patena and Lackey previously had RBI hits, and Claire Edwards doubled and scored as Granville also received 13 strikeouts and just one earned run allowed from Lodge.Ali West homered and doubled, scoring two runs and driving in two for the Hornets (2-3, 0-1), and Lydia Rauch added two hits and a run and Kelsey Carter and Hayley Anderson a hit and a run apiece.

BOYS VOLLEYBALLNewark wins in five Zayden Ross served 12 aces as Newark fended off a rally from Westerville Central to earn a home victory, 25-20, 25-16, 23-25, 20-25, 15-11.Ross also racked up 14 kills and 13 digs for the Wildcats (3-3). Miles Drake added 30 assists, 10 kills and four aces, Adrian Taylor 10 kills and 10 digs and Kahne Pastorius seven kills and eight blocks.
TRACKNewark girls win fiveKyleigh Davis crossed in a time of 13.83 seconds to win the 100-meter dash for the Newark girls during a meet at Mount Vernon. The Wildcats had five individual winners.
