By Bianca Iboma-Emefu The Rotary Club of Ojodu in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Omole-Ojodu, the Young Christian Workers (YCW) of Nigeria from the Holy Spirit, Omole, and Our Lady of Holy Rosary, Ogba, has embarked on a road walk in Lagos to sensitise the public especially mothers and guardians on the need to immunise and vaccinate their children against polio. The 5km walk to keep polio at zero, aimed at raising awareness and strengthen the global fight to end polio for good, Rotarians in their numbers carried banners and hand flags with various inscriptions including “End Polio Now” as they walked polio out in Nigeria accompanied by music and life bands. In a bid to maintain the zero case status quo, Nigeria has continued in their campaign against the endemic diseases through awareness, distribution of vaccines and sensitisations.

The event received strong support and traffic coordination from the Lagos State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ojodu and the Rotary Club of Ojodu Marshal Unit – RS 2.1 Unit 66, were on ground ensuring the safety and smooth operation of the walk. However, the club extends gratitude to the Polio Team, led by Dr.



Ime Okon, for the event success whose efforts continue to drive the fight against polio. The Vice Chairman of the Rotary Club of Ojodu Polio Committee, Johnpaul Chigbo, expertly executed the event. The Presidents of both Rotary Clubs, Osi-Evans Ikphunuekhai of the Rotary Club of Ojodu and Rotarian Henderson Bello ably represented by the Past President of the club Rotarian Ope Obafemi.

The President of YCW Omole, Rotarian Martins Nnanna, as well as his counterpart from YCW Ogba Mrs. Glady Ejalen, expressed their joy and appreciation for the collaborative spirit of both Rotary Clubs, which provided the enabling environment for the YCW members to participate in this important cause. President of Rotary Club of Ojodu and Omole- Ojodu, Osi-Evans Ikphunuekhai and Henderson Bello ably represented by the Past President of the Club, Ope Obafemi expressed their excitement over the success of the event, noting that this collaboration marked a positive step toward aligning both clubs for future joint endeavors.

The walk not only raised awareness about polio but also demonstrated the power of community collaboration in the fight against this endemic disease. Martins Nnanna and Mrs. Gladys Ejalen both expressed heartfelt appreciation for the opportunity to join forces with the Rotary Clubs of Ojodu and Omole, thanking them for their commitment to making the event a reality.

The Presidents emphasized that this collaboration will continue to grow, fostering further partnership for the common good of all. This event is part of Rotary’s ongoing global efforts to eradicate polio, and it serves as a reminder of the importance of continued vigilance, advocacy, and collaboration in achieving a polio-free world. The Rotary Clubs of Ojodu and Omole Ojodu are part of the global network of Rotary International, committed to service above self, with a focus on promoting peace, combating disease, providing clean water, supporting education, and improving livelihoods.
