The 35-year-old Irish golfer defeated Justin Rose in a sudden-death playoff to win the Masters on Sunday (April 13) at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Ga. The Masters is the only one of the four major tournaments in golf that uses a sudden-death format to determine a winner. The two finalists alternated the 18th and 10th holes until a winner was determined.
It only took one hole for Rory to win! Rory ‘s prize for winning the Masters is $4.2 million out of the $21 million purse. The best prize of all is that Rory is now one of just six people to complete golf’s modern Grand Slam, which consists of winning the Masters, the U.
S. Open, the British Open, and the PGA Championship. The first four players to complete the Grand Slam were Jack Nicklaus , Ben Hogen , Gary Player , and Gene Sarazen .
