As if the Pittsburgh Steelers didn't have enough issues at wide receiver this season, the team has gotten absolutely nothing out of rookie wide receiver Roman Wilson. He was injured to start the season but had been healthy for weeks, yet the Steelers only dressed him once in that span, and he played just five snaps in his NFL debut, which came in Week 6. When asked about why Wilson wasn't dressing, head coach Mike Tomlin basically stated that the rookie simply wasn't ready for a few reasons after missing a ton of practice time, both during the offseason and regular season.
"He missed some practice time because of the hammy and as we’ve talked repeatedly in this setting, Roman needs to work for me to really consider him," Tomlin said last week. "His participation got compromised some last week and so really once it got compromised, I moved on." Well, now Wilson's participation has been compromised again after he suffered a hamstring injury.
Here's the latest update on the rookie wide receiver. Roman Wilson injury update The Steelers announced on Monday that Wilson has been placed on injured reserve , which means he'll be forced to miss at least the next four games. It's unclear if he'll need more than the four-game minimum that IR requires, but if not he'll be eligible to return for Pittsburgh's Week 13 game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
The bye does not count as one of the weeks. But Wilson is far from guaranteed to play upon his return from IR. Tomlin clearly did not think the Michigan product was ready to take the field before, and more missed practice time isn't going to help that.
There's still time for Wilson to get healthy and make an impact down the stretch, but right now he's on track to have a lost rookie season, which is terrible for his development..
