The ingredient is easily available in every kitchen - and it might just surprise you.

Roast potatoes are among the most popular dishes in every UK household. Crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle, it is an absolutely essential British comfort food. But to make sure they are made crispier, Molly Adams from Simply Recipes suggested adding one ingredient that will never disappoint.

In a blog post she shared that adding cornstarch to the potatoes will make it crispier, just like French fries. She said: “After closely inspecting the brand of frozen French fries I often buy, I realized that they are coated in a blend of starches to help crisp them up. “So, I decided to give the method a shot with roasted potatoes.

And it turns out, coating the potatoes with cornstarch is the secret to super crispy roasted potatoes!" However, she explained that adding any type of starch will dull the seasoning on the potatoes, so it's important to season them more generously than you would otherwise. She added: "The resulting potatoes are incredibly crisp on the outside, light and fluffy on the inside, and hold their shape well." First, boil the potatoes in a pot of salted water.

Let them dry in a colander set. Once the potatoes are dry, add a layer of salt, black pepper, dried herbs, and spices of your choice. Add one tablespoon of cornstarch for every 1 1/2 pounds of potatoes Toss the potatoes well to ensure everything is evenly coated Place them on a well-oiled rimmed sheet and bake it at 450F for 20-25 minutes.
