The Rivers State chapter of the Chartered Institute of Directors has said the state is open for business, with an abundance of opportunities waiting to be tapped. The chairman of the institute in the South-South and South-East, Engr. Innocent Akuvue stated this in Port Harcourt during an interactive session with members of the organized private sector and government ministries, departments and agencies in the state organized by the Rivers State Investment Promotion Agency.

Speaking to newsmen on the sidelines of the event, Akuvue noted that the forum is important to educate business owners on the benefits of doing business in the state. He stated, “What is happening here today is the Rivers State investment forum, where businesses, especially private business owners, organized private sector are called by the agency of government to be educated on what opportunities exist in the state and how cordial the state is to receive investors. “We are all here for it and it’s been quite a revealing experience.



Some people don’t know what could happen in this state, so it is good that this opportunity was given for business men and women to come around and interact with the Rivers State investment agency. ” Highlighting the need for corporate governance to be taken seriously, Akuvue said, “For me, particularly, I’m quite happy that I’m here and as a member of the Chartered Institute of Directors, it is also good for them to understand that corporate governance is the key to everything. “You could have opportunities, but if they are not properly managed, it’s a big mess. A one-stop shop was unveiled where you just sit down, at the click of a button or buttons you are able to do a lot of registration, a lot of processes, so it makes business easier.

“Doing legal business in Rivers State is possible, it has been proven to be workable and testimonies have been given that it is workable and it is working.” The high point of the forum was the launch of the One-Stop-Center platform by the Rivers State Investment Promotion Agency to boost the ease of doing and registering business in the state..
