River Road closed as Delta police investigate car driven onto bank of Fraser

Delta police are investigating after a car nearly drove into the Fraser River Friday morning (Nov. 29). According to a press release issued Friday afternoon, police responded to a report that a car had intentionally been driven into the Fraser River in the 8200-block of River Road in the Tilbury industrial area of Delta at 9:39 a.

m. Police found the vehicle was off road and stuck in the foreshore of the river, not in the water. Prior to police arriving, Delta firefighters and good Samaritans came to the aid of the female driver and two young children also in the car.



"We thank the public and the Delta firefighters for their actions at the onset of this incident," the department said in its press release. Both the children and driver were taken to hospital. Police say the children appeared to be uninjured and were taken for observation, while the woman is receiving medical care.

The Delta Police Department is investigating the incident as a criminal matter, and River Road remains closed while collision analysts map and document the scene. Police say the area was busy with commuters at the time the car left the road, and investigators are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident and not yet spoken with an officer, or anyone who may have CCTV, dash camera or Tesla video, to contact the DPD at 604-946-4411 and quote file number 2024-22512..
