Rising UFC star flies to Miami hoping to secure Michael Chandler vs Paddy Pimblett backup role at UFC 314

Mauricio Ruffy is looking to continue his hot streak and is hopeful of a surprise appearance on the UFC 314 card this coming Saturday.Ever since his fight on Dana White’s Contender Series in 2023, Mauricio Ruffy has quickly emerged into one of the biggest potential stars in the promotion, being labeled as a guaranteed future champion.His stock rose tenfold at UFC 313 when Ruffy scored the Knockout of the Year against Bobby Green, picking up the biggest win of his career thus far.

In the co-main event, fellow soaring star, Paddy Pimblett takes on Michael Chandler in what is set to be a huge fight in the lightweight division.Not only because he has teammates fighting on the card but Ruffy is travelling to Miami, in hope that he can be the backup for that fight incase either Pimblett or Chandler withdraws.“Without a doubt, I’m going to be there.

I’m going over there, I’m gonna be there for the fights, that is one of the reasons I came here to be there for my teammates but the other thing is, I’m ready to go,” Ruffy told MMAJunkie.“If either Pimblett or Chandler drops out or something happens and they cannot fight, I’m right here, ready to go, I’ll be there ready to step up and fill in that spot,” Ruffy continued.Ruffy’s teammate, Jean Silva is set to compete on the card against Bryce Mitchell in what is a highly anticipated matchup, however, Ruffy has an adopted teammate competing on the card, too.

Ruffy targeting UFC 317 if he doesn’t fight at UFC 314With it unlikely that the Brazilian will get the chance to compete this coming Saturday, Ruffy is targeting a return at the end of June for UFC 317 on International Fight Week.Ruffy is hopeful of a fight against UFC veteran, Beneil Dariush and has revealed that the UFC are looking at putting that fight together.With a win over ‘Benny D’, Ruffy could potentially crack the top 10 and wouldn’t be too far away from the lightweight title conversation.
