Rising Fees in Private Universities

I am writing to express concern over the excessively high tuition fees charged by private universities, and to question whether the quality of education justifies such costs. This issue is affecting thousands of students and their families who struggle to afford higher education. Private universities raise their fees year after year, including charges for admission, registration, and miscellaneous services.

For many middle-class families, this creates a crushing financial burden, forcing them to make sacrifices or take out loans to secure their children’s future. What’s more troubling is that despite the steep fees, the education offered often falls short. Many of these institutions lack proper infrastructure, follow outdated curricula, and rely heavily on part-time or visiting faculty.

Facilities for research and practical learning are inadequate, leaving students ill-equipped for the job market. From Neglect to Care With public universities overcrowded and having limited seats, students have little choice but to turn to expensive private alternatives. Unfortunately, it seems education is being treated more as a profit-making business than a public service.

I urge the relevant authorities, especially the Higher Education Commission (HEC), to take immediate action. There must be regulations on tuition fees and regular assessments to ensure private universities deliver education that matches what they charge. Higher education must be affordable, accessible, and meaningful.
