Rihanna’s Rare Louis Vuitton Bag Is Too Good To Stay In The Archives

Rihanna’s latest trophy vintage is a handbag so coveted it had its own comeback.

Rihanna has, over the past week or so, been photographed in several frame-swamping fashions – a Resort 2025 Bottega Veneta waistcoat worn to dinner at Giorgio Baldi; the amorphic spring/summer 2025 Rick Owens gown she wore to a Fenty Beauty launch in Paris; and, most recently, a grey marl Miu Miu tracksuit while shopping at Los Angeles’s upscale supermarket Bristol Farms. While oversized silhouettes have long been a fixture of the (let’s face it, retired) musician’s paparazzi shots, fans have revived a narrative as stale as the tabloids that fuel it: “ Are we thinking shes pregoo again or its just me ”. She might be! But she also might not be! And what if Rihanna was hatching something else entirely? Like the reveal of a handbag so coveted it experienced its own renaissance – the Takashi Murakami for Louis Vuitton Speedy 30 – sported as if it were a run-of-the-mill tote while she picked from a packet of ham and her assistant loaded groceries into a nearby trolley.

Rihanna’s not precious about this sort of thing – perhaps because she already owns a decent chunk of the Louis Vuitton archive, including a Dalmatian-print Sac bag from 2003, a Stephen Sprouse Pochette from 2001, and that football-shaped purse from 1998. As for this particular bag? It first appeared within Louis Vuitton’s spring/summer 2003 collection and again within a wider 2025 re-release. “Those 20 years have flown by,” said the Japanese artist in a recent conversation with Vogue , reflecting on the inspirations behind the rainbow-monogrammed accessories.



“At the time, I knew little about fashion,” he added, explaining that his goal was “to bring children into the Louis Vuitton world.” But of course all those children – and I mean, was it ever really kids buying those bags? – have now become grown adults scouring the shoppable internet for second-hand originals. Good luck to them: Vestiaire Collective saw a 60 per cent increase in prices when the collaborative re-edition was announced back in December, while there was a 290 per cent spike in searches globally on eBay.
