RUGBY LEAGUE: A Gala Day Event for registrations will be held at Kwikila on April 29 at Kwikila Town, Rigo District, Central Province. With Rigo Schools Rugby League Competition scheduled for kick-off off in mid May, the gala day is an open fun day event with various activities to be staged including, fun games for kids, rugby league skill sessions, and entertainment. Stalls for SMEs and Corporate organisations will also be on sale for K150 and K300 respectively.
Special highlights for the event will also feature sessions conducted by PNGRFL Community Rugby League and NRL PNG Team. “Reasons behind hosting this gala day event is to coincide with registration of participants including school kids, coaches, referees and other volunteers. Registrations Fees are K20 only”, said George Enane, President of Rigo Schools Rugby League.
He further added that with the competition involving school kids, proper compliance processes including parents & school consent, insurance, competition management information must be made available to stakeholders involved in the game. “Activities and sessions to be featured during the event is also vital to promote importance of education, inclusiveness, participation and key values the games advocates on,” Enane added. Rigo Schools Rugby League is affiliated to PNGRFL through the Community Rugby League Department for 2025 Rugby League Season.
The competition supports PNGRFL’s “Better people, better sport, better nation”, slogan and aims to make this a success for the Rigo School Rugby League playing populace. “We have reached out to various sponsors and partners to support the cause and hope to make this event a success,” Enane said. Participation in the Rigo Schools Rugby League Competition will involve nearby schools in Rigo Central and Coast LLGs.
