Rice is a staple in many households, but making sure it’s the right consistency and that you have the perfect amount can be tricky. To help you combat your rice- cooking woes, recipe developer Amy Sheppard shared a foolproof way for getting it right every single time. What’s even better, there’s no need for a boiling saucepan or any drainage.
All you need is a bowl and a dinner plate to do the job. In a recent TikTok video, Amy explained how she learned the technique from her dad - and how it works, every single time. She said: “Please tell me that I'm not the only one that hates making rice.
"We eat a lot of rice and I've never been very good at cooking it. It always stuck to the pan, It was always a little bit stodgy and I always made too much. “A little while ago my dad came up with a great way to make rice in the microwave and it is honestly a game changer.
You get just the right amount, there's no need to drain it and you haven't got a saucepan to soak.” Amy’s video has already been viewed over 41,500 times, receiving 1,047 likes and 46 comments. A number of people recommended a rice cooker for the perfect fluffy rice.
Batooldiaries said: “Whaaaatttttt definitely will try this I struggle a lot with making rice.” Another said: “Been doing it for years, it's so easy. Just put one cup of rice (no prewash) into a Pyrex dish, add 2 cups of water and microwave on high for 14 minutes (+/- depending on your microwave).
Perfect!” So if you’re looking to make cooking rice even easier, this is what you need to do for Amy’s recipe . Ingredients 300g Basmati rice 650ml cold tap water One tsp salt Method Place the rice in a large mixing bowl. Rinse the rice thoroughly to remove the starch, you can do this in the mixing bowl, changing the water a couple of times.
Add a teaspoon of salt and 650ml of water from the cold tap. Don't stir it Place the bowl in the microwave uncovered. Cook on full power for ten minutes.
Remove from the microwave and stir once. Return to the microwave for another three minutes - check that all of the water has been absorbed by tipping the bowl on its side. If there's still water, cook for another 30 seconds.
Place a dinner plate on top of the bowl and microwave for one minute. Leave to stand for one minute with the plate on. Check it's cooked through, before fluffing it up with a fork.
