POCATELLO — The City of Pocatello, in collaboration with the Friends of Brady Chapel, is pleased to announce the ribbon-cutting for the James H. Brady Chapel on Veteran's Day, Nov. 11.
The ribbon-cutting will be 11 a.m. and the open house will run from 11 a.
m. to 4 p.m.
This event celebrates the completion of Phase I: Masonry Restoration, which included the careful restoration and reinstallation of the chapel's historic pinnacles. Located in Mountain View Cemetery, Brady Chapel has been a cherished landmark since its dedication in 1922 to Idaho's seventh Governor, James H. Brady.
Originally built as a public meditation chapel and mausoleum, it has become a community treasure. Phase I focused on essential masonry repairs and the reinstallation of the deteriorated pinnacles. Skilled artisans restored the intricate stonework, enhancing the chapel’s beauty and structural integrity.
This milestone brings the chapel closer to its original grandeur, thanks to the dedication of the restoration team and the support of the Pocatello community. Funding for the project came from various sources, including nearly $13,000 in donations raised by the HPC and Friends of Brady Chapel, as well as grants from the Idaho Heritage Trust and the National Trust for Historic Preservation: — Idaho Heritage Trust – 2019 Grant: $5,000. — Idaho Heritage Trust – 2021 Grant: $5,000.
— National Trust for Historic Preservation — 2023 Johanna Favrot Grant: $5,000. Holding the ribbon-cutting on Veteran's Day adds a special significance to the event. Brady Chapel has long been a site for reflection and remembrance, and its reopening on this day of national honor provides an opportunity for the community to pay tribute to veterans while celebrating the successful completion of the exterior masonry restoration.
