Tragic news has emerged from Costa Rica concerning the sudden passing of Miller Gardner, the 14-year-old son of retired New York Yankees star Brett Gardner. According to a preliminary report by Costa Rica's Judicial Investigation Agency, the teenager may have tragically died from asphyxiation, potentially linked to food poisoning. NBC News reported this distressing development, noting that the findings remain provisional pending a full toxicological analysis and autopsy.

Miller's body was discovered last Friday in a hotel room within the bustling tourist area of Manuel Antonio on Costa Rica's Pacific Coast. As per a statement from Juan Pablo Alvarado Garcia, an official with the country's Judicial Investigation Organization, the cause of death has yet to be definitively determined. He suggested Miller might to have died "after a possible intoxication after apparently ingesting some food," as noted by NBC News.



In a heartrending statement accessed by CBS News, Brett Gardner and his wife, Jessica, spoke of the harrowing loss, saying, "With heavy hearts we are saddened to announce the passing of our youngest son, Miller. He was 14 years old and has left us far too soon after falling ill along with several other family members while on vacation. We have so many questions and so few answers at this point, but we do know that he passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of Friday, March 21st.

" The New York Yankees, with whom Brett Gardner enjoyed a fruitful 14-season career, including a World Series win in 2009 and a Gold Glove award in 2016, offered a warm remembrance. The Yankees highlighted Miller's "spark in his eyes, an outgoing and feisty personality, and a warm and loving nature" in a statement following the tragic news. Moreover, a statement obtained by CBS News from Miller's parents paints a vivid picture of their son as a tremendous source of joy, "Miller was a beloved son and brother and we cannot yet comprehend our life without his infectious smile.

He loved football, baseball, golf, hunting, fishing, his family and his friends. He lived life to the fullest every single day."The family has asked for privacy as they cope with this immense loss during an incredibly difficult time.
