Retired cop, small-time trader duped of lakhs

Ludhiana: Ludhiana rural police booked five travel agents for duping a retired police officer and a mobile shop owner of lakhs by giving them fake visas. In the first case, police filed a case against Som Dutt , his wife Kanchan of Bagha Purana in Moga and Pardeep Singh of same district, on the complaint of Darshan Singh , a retired ASI from Jagraon. The complainant told the police that he wanted to send his son, Akashdeep Singh , daughter Lovepreet Kaur and nephew Lakhveer Singh to Canada, for which an acquaintance introduced him to the accused agents.

He said that the accused took Rs 19.53 lakh from him to send his son, daughter and nephew to Canada but failed to arrange the visas. When he insisted on a refund, the accused sent fake visas.



In the second case, Manpreet Singh of Jandyali village in Jagraon was allegedly duped of Rs 9 lakh by travel agents Surinderpal Singh of Sherpur Chowk in Jagraon and his wife Paramjit Kaur. The complainant, who runs a mobile repair shop, said that he wanted to go abroad, for which he contacted Paramjit, who knew his aunt, and her husband Surinderpal. He added that the accused had an office called Guru Nanak Air Travel at Sherpur Chowk in Jagraon.

The accused assured to arrange his immigration to Canada, for which they demanded Rs 16 lakh. The cost of insurance and air ticket was not included in this. According to the complainant, the accused took his original passport, photocopies of other documents and photographs besides Rs 9 lakh advance for his visa application but gave him photocopies of fake visa.
