The Minister of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development, Martin Adjei Mensah-Korsah, has advised Ghanaians to retain the NPP government in power in order to enable the party to continue the transformational projects taking place in the various districts across the country. He explained that a new government might have new priorities and abandoned ongoing projects, and deny the people of the benefits of such development initiatives. Mr Mensah-Korsah said the current government was delivering on its mandate, and urged the electorate to vote massively for the NPP on December 7 for continuity.
The Minister was speaking when he inaugurated Dormaa transport terminal at Dormaa Ahenkro, and a market at Berekum in the Bono Region on Monday. The two projects, completed in 2022, are part of the Ghana Secondary Cities Support programme, being carried out in 35 districts and municipalities across the country. The Ghana Secondary Cities Support programme (GSCP) is a World Bank-funded programme that helps improve urban management and basic services in the country.
With a total investment of 245 million dollars, the programme under the urban Development Grant, is to revolutionarise urban infrastructure and management capacities of beneficiary communities. The Dormaa transport terminal at Dormaa Ahenkro consists of 21 stores, police post, ambulance bay, fire post, waiting lounges, and mechanise borehole. The projects, according to Mr Mensah-Korsah, was intended to improve infrastructure in urban communities as the population of the country increases.
He called on the Dormaa Municipal Assembly to set up a management committee to take care of the facility in order to ensure its longevity. At Berekum, the minister inaugurated the Berekum Thursday Market, which was completed in 2022, and already in use with similar facilities to the Dormaa Bus Terminal. The Member of Parliament (MP) for Dormaa Central, Mr Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, appealed to the people to reward the government by voting massively for the NPP in the impending polls.
Nana Baffour Asare, Kyidomhene of the Dormaa Traditional Council, commended the government for improving infrastructure in Dormaa area since 2017. He mentioned that the asphalt overlaying town roads, resource centre projects by the government, which according to him, had improved the wellbeing of the people. He pledged the support of the chiefs and people of the area toward government efforts to bring more developments to the municipality.
The Municipal Chief Executive of Berekum West, Mr Kofi Agyei, expressed gratitude to the transport unions, especially the Ghana Road Transport Union (GPRTU) for its contribution to the construction of the market. FROM DANIEL DZIRASAH, DORMAA AHENKRO.
