Restaurant chain hailing from Jersey Shore continues Canadian expansion with first Edmonton sub shop this year

2025 is shaping up to be quite the year for Edmonton’s food scene. With huge chains like Dave’s Hot Chicken gearing up to open in the city, another big player is on the way.Last year, it was revealed that Jersey Mike’s Subs had made grand expansion plans, aiming to open more than 300 locations across Canada in the next 10 years. Now, the chain has officially confirmed it is setting its sights on YEG later this year.To bring the plans to life, Jersey Mike’s, which started in the Jersey Shore in 1956, partnered with Redberry, one of Canada’s largest restaurant operators, in early 2024.Since the partnership kicked off, Ken Otto, CEO at Redberry, told Dished they had made strides, opening six Jersey’s Mike’s locations across Ontario over the last year, with its openings drawing large crowds.“The brand has such a connection in America. It’s doing really well there, so we knew that Canadians would be drawn to what we’re offering,” Otto said.“That’s helped us really accelerate our development plans across Canada,” he added.While further expansion plans are underway in Ontario, the chain, known for its grilled subs, will also be making its way across the country, with locations in Calgary and Edmonton on the way in 2025, as well as Regina.Otto said detailed real estate negotiations are almost concluded, adding that the brand hopes to share more specifics on the new locations over the coming months.“They are far enough along that we know we’re coming out west,” he added.While Alberta, Ontario, and Saskatchewan are Jersey Mike’s priorities for the year ahead, Canadians across the country can get excited. Otto confirmed that B.C. and Manitoba will be next on the list with expansion plans in 2026 before heading to Atlantic Canada and Quebec.Still hungry?
