Brighton MP Chris Ward has called for immediate action to stop vehicles parking along a roadside.

There have been calls for immediate action to stop vehicles parking along a roadside. Chris Ward, MP for Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven, said residents are "fed up" with caravans repeatedly parking in Wilson Avenue in Brighton. Most recently, several motorhomes arrived in the road in March and left piles of rubbish behind when they were moved on by Brighton and Hove City Council.

Last week, workers were seen beginning to clear up the rubbish and several caravans were also seen being transported off the site. There are still a number of vehicles present in the avenue. The council announced this week that barriers will be put up to limit access to the roadside and plans are being discussed for a more permanent solution.

But Mr Ward has called for a clearer update to when this will happen and for the council to treat the matter with urgency. He said: “I’ve been on at the council about this for months. Residents are absolutely fed up—and frankly, so am I.

“I’m sick of seeing the same cycle repeat itself: vehicles park up, rubbish gets dumped, enforcement comes in far too late and the whole thing starts again. “It’s not fair on the community and it’s not fair on council workers who are left to clean up the mess. “I want to see barriers installed immediately and a proper plan in place to stop this from happening again.

This will be checked on in the coming days, as it may have just been parked there temporarily. “Where people are found to be living in vehicles, we try to support them into accommodation. “Unfortunately, when enforcement takes place to move the vehicles from Wilson Avenue, it is not uncommon for new vehicles to appear.

We will be putting in barriers to limit access to the area shortly. “We are keen to manage the issue of moving people living in vehicles on to other parts of the city and are exploring what temporary measures we can bring in while we develop a permanent solution.”.
