Resident victim of payday loan fraud: Brecksville Police Blotter

In this week’s Brecksville Police Blotter, a Settler’s Passage resident came to the police station after discovering he was the victim of identity theft.

BRECKSVILLE, Ohio Identity theft, Settler’s Passage: On Aug. 12, a Settler’s Passage resident came to the police station after discovering he was the victim of identity theft. The man said earlier that day he received a collections letter from Viking Legal Group.

In the correspondence, the supposed debt collection agency stated the resident was delinquent on a $1,154 payday loan. The funds were issued by Money Key. The victim, who said he never opened an account with Money Key or any other payday loan lender, admitted to having his identity compromised in a similar way two times in the past -- in 2015 and 2018.
