The Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives has expressed deep shock and outrage over the brutal killing of at least 16 Nigerians, mostly from the northern region, by a group of lawless individuals in Edo State in the past few days. In a statement issued on Monday, the Caucus strongly condemned the horrific act, describing it as a senseless and barbaric attack on innocent citizens. The Caucus stressed that such violent acts not only threaten the peace and unity of Nigeria but also undermine the principles of law and order upon which the country is built.

“We find these senseless killings of innocent Nigerians in any part of the country deeply reprehensible,” the statement read. “If such lawless actions are allowed to persist without immediate intervention by the responsible authorities, they could destabilize the peace and harmony we all cherish as a nation.” In the statement co-signed by Hon.

Aliyu Madaki, Deputy Minority Leader, and other leaders of the Minority Caucus, the group reaffirmed its commitment to a Nigeria where justice and fairness prevail. It urged all citizens to resist the temptation of resorting to violence. The group called on Nigerians to always engage the appropriate law enforcement agencies when faced with issues of concern, rather than taking matters into their own hands.

In the wake of this tragic event, the Caucus called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, to immediately direct the relevant security agencies to launch a thorough investigation into the killings and bring all those responsible to justice. The Caucus also demanded that the families of the victims be provided with adequate compensation. “We implore all Nigerians to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding,” the statement continued.

“It is crucial that we allow the federal and state governments to thoroughly investigate this matter in the interest of justice and national unity.” The Minority Caucus expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and assured them that it would continue to work diligently to ensure justice is served. The Caucus also pledged to remain vigilant in holding authorities accountable for the protection of all Nigerians.
