The Kansas City Chiefs lost starting running back Isaiah Pacheco for the foreseeable future. Head coach Andy Reid confirmed that Pacheco fractured his fibula during Sunday's 26-25 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. Kansas City will likely spend much of the 2024 season without him.

According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler , Pacheco is expected to miss approximately six to eight weeks. The Chiefs will place the two-time Super Bowl champion on the injured reserve, making him ineligible for the next four games. Pacheco took control of Kansas City's backfield last season, registering 1,179 scrimmage yards and nine touchdowns on 249 touches.

He collected 313 rushing yards and three scores during the playoffs. The former seventh-round pick began the 2024 season with 78 yards and a touchdown in a Week 1 win over the Baltimore Ravens. Pacheco then posted 111 yards on 24 touches against Cincinnati.

Signed shortly before the season started, Samaje Perine could handle more reps in the backfield. Undrafted rookie Carson Steele saw seven carries on Sunday, including two late runs to set up Harrison Butker's game-winning field goal.

Kansas City may pursue a reunion to help fill the void. Per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero , former Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt will visit the team Tuesday. Another familiar face, Jerick McKinnon, remains unsigned after spending the last three seasons in Kansas City.

Reid must manage his offense without Pacheco when the Chiefs face the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday Night Football . Related: Chiefs Hit With Brutal Injury Loss Monday After Close Win.
