There have been two NFL head coaches fired so far this season, in Robert Saleh of the New York Jets and Dennis Allen of the New Orleans Saints. How many more firings are coming? According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, at least five. Schefter appeared on The Pat McAfee Show this week and detailed that there will probably be seven to nine head coaching openings this offseason.
We've already had two head coaches getting fired, which would mean that at least five more are going to be ousted. "When I look ahead into this season, there will be no less than seven, and I will say the realistic range is seven to nine, and it's probably closer to the over than the under," Schefter said. "And if it came in over nine, that wouldn't be the most shocking thing either.
But I think seven to nine is realistic, probably eight or nine." . @AdamSchefter tells @PatMcAfeeShow he believes there could be seven to nine NFL coaching changes before next season 😯 "There's a playoff season and there's a hunting season.
" pic.twitter.com/LFWsCYdQTA The question, of course, is which head coaches that are still employed will be fired when the season ends? There are a couple of obvious picks, in Mike McCarthy of the Dallas Cowboys and Doug Pederson of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Matt Eberflus of the Chicago Bears is another likely candidate. Other reports have suggested that Antonio Pierce could be on the hot seat in Las Vegas. Perhaps the Bucs will look to move on from Todd Bowles, too.
And maybe, if the Eagles falter in the playoffs again, Nick Sirianni will be ousted. Richard Rodriguez/Getty Images The Giants have said that Brian Daboll will return in 2025, though after starting quarterback Daniel Jones was benched, anything is on the table in New York. Bill Belichick, who took the 2024 season off after not landing a job this past season, could have his pick of gigs this offseason.
Reports have suggested that he could be eyeing the Jacksonville Jaguars job . And, of course, there's Deion Sanders, who says he's committed to Colorado, but if the Cowboys get aggressive - and draft his son, Shedeur Sanders - would he really be able to pass on their offer? It's shaping up to be quite the offseason..
