The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has planned repairs of the expansion joints at the bridge. Regular commuters said the civic administration and the traffic police need to make adequate arrangements to manage the heavy traffic during the bridge's closure. Manish Kulkarni, a resident of the Wadgaon area off Sinhagad Road, said commuters were appalled by the sudden closure of one side of the bridge on Monday. "People were forced to take a longer route to reach the other side.

The authorities need to have a better plan," Kulkarni said. Civic officials said the administration does not plan to shut the entire bridge for the works. "One side will remain closed for vehicles.

Two-way traffic will be diverted from the other side. The repairs are expected to continue for a few weeks," a civic official said. The PMC has undertaken similar repairs at other prominent bridges in the city in the last six months.

Sachin Pandse, a resident of Vitthalwadi, said unlike other bridges, vehicular movement at Rajaram Bridge is much higher. "There is no alternate bridge nearby to cross the river. It is going to be a challenge for the authorities to manage traffic during the closure of the bridge," he said.

PMC is constructing a bridge connecting the Sun City area on Sinhagad Road to Karvenagar, however, work is still under way..
