Renowned Folk Dancer, Padma Shri Ram Sahay Panday Passes Away At 92

Renowned folk dance artist Ram Sahay Panday, breathed his last in Madhya Pradesh's Sagar district early on Tuesday, April 8, reported PTI. Panday passed away following a prolonged illness, family sources said. He was 92 at the time of death.

The legendary figure in Rai folk dance, was honoured with the Padma Shri in 2022 for preserving and promoting Rai dance. The 'Rai' artist from Bundelkhand, popularised the Rai folk dance for six decades, by mixing it with tunes of 'Mridangam'. He's delivered 100+ performances in 18 countries, as per sources.

twitter.com/LBpGwBo60s Madhya Pradesh chief minister Mohan Yadav condoled the demise of the noted artist. The CM said that Panday adopted the field of art in adverse circumstances and achieved a lot by following his passion against the tide.

Yadav also said that Ram Sahay got recognition for the Rai folk dance of Bundelkhand not only in India but in other countries as well. Ram Sahay Panday is survived by his wife and a son..
