Bolton’s Victoria Hall hosted an unforgettable evening, as the world-renowned Black Dyke Band performed alongside local youth musicians. The collaboration gave young performers from the Bolton Youth Brass Band and Wigan Music Centre Youth Band the rare opportunity to perform with one of the most successful brass bands in the world. The Mayor of Bolton, Councillor Andy Morgan and Mayoress, Karen Holdsworth attended the event praising the young musicians.
Cllr Morgan said: “I couldn’t have been more proud of them, they truly were amazing. “Thank you to the Black Dyke band for taking them under their wings and giving them one of the most memorable experiences of their lives." She said: “What an amazing night. They were incredible.” Founded in 1855 in Queensbury, West Yorkshire, the Black Dyke Band is one of the most famous brass bands worldwide.
With over 20 National Champions of Great Britain titles and multiple European Brass Band Championships, their reputation is unmatched. The band also earned a Grammy in 2006 for their collaboration with percussionist Evelyn Glennie and the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. Their repertoire spans traditional brass to contemporary works, with past collaborations including music legends like Paul McCartney.
Throughout the evening, Black Dyke Band members took the time to mentor the young performers , offering valuable guidance and support. The young musicians performed alongside the Black Dyke Band in a variety of pieces showcasing their talent in front of alive audience.
The event was a testament to the power of music in uniting artists of all ages, providing young musicians the chance to perform alongside world-class talent..
