But did you know Remo D’Souza isn’t his real name? On his 51st birthday, let’s take a look at his original name, the films he has directed, and five of the best songs he has choreographed. What Is The Real Name Of Remo D’Souza? The ace choreographer and filmmaker was originally named Ramesh Gopi Nair. Born on April 2, 1974, in Bangalore, he belonged to a Hindu family from Olavakkode, Palakkad, Kerala.

His father, Gopi Nair, served in the Indian Air Force, while his mother, Madhaviyamma, was a homemaker. Remo later converted to Christianity and adopted the name we all know today. He reportedly changed his faith when he married Lizelle Watkins, an Anglo-Indian from Mumbai.

Lizelle, a costume designer and film producer, has worked on multiple television shows and backed films like Time to Dance and Street Dancer 3D. Despite being raised by strict parents, Remo D’Souza received their full support when he decided to convert to Christianity and change his name. In a past interview, he recalled, “My father is from the Air Force, so he is very strict.

But the surprising thing is that both of them asked me what do you want to do? I said I would like to change my religion. So they said go ahead," adding, “Because my father has more faith in Jesus Christ. My mother also believed in him.

So they said okay. But he did not change his religion. He remained a Hindu.

In my family of 8 people, I am the only Christian. The rest are all Hindus," reported India.com.
