Home | Remains of struggle stalwart Sithembiso Madikizela reburied in EC The remains of struggle stalwart, Sithembiso Standford Madikizela, have been reburied at Mbhongweni village in Mbizana, Eastern Cape. Madikizela’s remains are amongst the 42 remains of struggle stalwarts repatriated from Zimbabwe and Zambia last month. He died in Zimbabwe in 1986.
Family Spokesperson Zangoxolo Madikizela says getting his remains brought them peace. “We are very much pleased, we have long been waiting for this period. I think it’s more than 30 years since we pleaded with the government to bring those remains.
We got assistance just recently when we were told his remains would be brought back. His children have nothing. One of them (children) has a Grade 11 child who currently does not attend school due to lack of funds.
That clearly shows that the government has done nothing for the family or children.” Provincial MEC for Arts and Culture Sibulele Ngongo says the government will also be providing support to the family beyond the reburial. “I came across two of Tata uSithembiso Madikizela’s sons in Freedom Park.
We’ve engaged. We have said let us look at the conditions of living for these sons of Tatu’Sithembiso. When we looked, we realised that there was a need for shelter and engaged with the Department of Human Settlements.
As we speak, they managed to bring a temporary structure on Thursday so that the sons can live under proper shelter.” SABC © 2024.
