28 Years Later, the latest instalment in the acclaimed 28 Days Later horror series, has a release date of June 20, 2025, according to IMDB. The upcoming film, directed by Danny Boyle, marks a highly anticipated return to the dystopian world created by Boyle and screenwriter Alex Garland. In a thrilling twist for British cinema, the production team chose the dramatic landscapes of North East, with filming previously spotted at locations in County Durham, North Yorkshire, Northumberland, and Tyne and Wear.

Fans and locals spotted A-listers and film crews across these regions earlier this year, with filming now completed. Filming locations revealed on IMDB include Lindisfarne, Hexham, Newcastle, and Waskerley, near Consett in County Durham, Melsonby near Richmond and Fountains Abbey near Ripon, both in North Yorkshire. Trailers and crew members had been sighted at each location, giving a glimpse into the extensive production effort behind the film.

According to IMDB, 28 Years Later was originally slated to be called 28 Months Later to follow the series’ established timeline motif. However, given the 17-year gap since 28 Weeks Later premiered in 2007, the filmmakers opted for 28 Years Later as a more fitting title. The film will feature a star-studded cast, including Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Cillian Murphy, Ralph Fiennes, and Jack O'Connell.

Fans are eagerly awaiting the return of Murphy, reprising his role from the original 2002 film, which first introduced audiences to a world ravaged by a virus outbreak. The plot details remain closely guarded..
