Concacaf has taken disciplinary action against referee Marco Antonio Ortiz Nava after he was seen asking Lionel Messi for his shirt following Inter Miami’s 1-0 victory over Sporting Kansas City in the Concacaf Champions Cup on Wednesday night. After the final whistle, Nava approached the Argentine star and appeared to request his jersey. The referee later defended his actions, claiming he was actually asking for an autograph for a relative with special needs.

However, Concacaf determined that his behavior violated the official code of conduct for match officials. A statement released to ESPN read: “The referee’s conduct does not align with the Confederation’s Code of Conduct for match officials and existing processes for these types of requests. The referee has acknowledged his mistake, apologized for the incident, and accepted the disciplinary action Concacaf has applied.

” As of now, Concacaf has not disclosed the specific disciplinary measures taken against Nava. Inter Miami secured the win thanks to a second-half goal from Messi, continuing their strong run in the tournament. The victory keeps the team on track for further progress in the Concacaf Champions Cup.
