The Red Sox had a 1.2% chance of winning the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft.

But they ended up receiving the 15th pick. The Nationals won the lottery after entering with a 10.2% chance of the No.

1 pick, the fourth best odds. The Angels won the second pick, the Mariners the third pick, the Rockies the fourth pick and the Cardinals the fifth pick. The Mariners will selected third despite having the 13th best odds.

Boston finished 2024 with the 13th worst record (81-81) and had the 11th best odds to win the lottery because two teams (White Sox, Athletics) who finished with worse records were ineligible to receive a lottery pick. This marks the Red Sox’ fourth top 15 pick in the past five drafts. They selected Marcelo Mayer fourth overall in 2021, Kyle Teel 14th overall in 2023 and Braden Montgomery 12th overall in 2024.
