The Boston Red Sox are one of just a few teams involved in the Juan Soto sweepstakes, as they had a meeting scheduled with the New York Yankees outfielder this week. While Boston will still have to beat out both New York teams, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays for Soto's services, if they meet his monetary demands, they have a chance to land him. This week, legendary Red Sox pitcher Pedro Martinez picked Boston signing Soto as his bold prediction for the offseason.
"(My prediction) is that the Red Sox go and get Juan Soto," Martinez said during an interview with Steve Perrault. "(He's) the kind of bat and power we need. New England will go coo-coo bananas.
I'll be jumping on top of the dugout. I'll be the first one saying 'Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!'" What might the contract look like? Martinez predicts over $600 million, and he's willing to help flip the bill. "If you look at what he does it's got to be over $600 million," Martinez said.
"I know that's a lot of money. It's gonna take a lot more than (Dunkin Donuts gift cards)..
. I think I'm gonna have to actually get some of the little things that I have saved to put into the Red Sox (budget)." Soto may cost a lot, but his impact will absolutely be worth it.
