The Boston Red Sox have a sizeable group of players hitting the market this offseason, including four relievers - Kenley Jansen, Luis Garcia, Lucas Sims and Chris Martin. With that, Boston's chief baseball officer Craig Breslow will need to either sign a few veterans or acquire them in a trade in the coming months. The Red Sox could also consider bringing one of those four back, and it sounds like Breslow is intrigued by that prospect with Martin.

“Obviously it’s pretty clear the value he had,” Breslow said at the GM Meetings earlier this week (via. MassLive ). “We saw that when he was pitching and when we didn’t have him available to pitch.

And so we know we have some work to do in kind of rebuilding the bullpen and obviously could see there being a fit there.” Martin wasn't his best this past season, posting a 3.45 ERA and a 1.

128 WHIP while striking out 50 batters in 45 appearances (44 1/3 innings). He also battled injuries and anxiety throughout the year. However, in 2023, he was one of the best bullpen arms in the league, recording a 1.

05 ERA and a 1.032 WHIP while striking out 46 batters in 55 outings (51 1/3 innings). “He’s earned the right to get here (to free agency) and we need to figure out how all the pieces come together but guys who can go months and months between walks (are valuable),” Breslow said.

Martin is expected to pitch just one more year, so he may be looking for a better chance to win, but if Boston adds the talent that they have the ability to, the Red Sox could provide the veteran with that opportunity.
