The Texas Tech Red Raiders did the unthinkable on Saturday, knocking off previously unbeaten Iowa State on the road in a 23-22 dramatic victory. One of the stars of the game, at least defensively, was junior linebacker Jacob Rodriguez, who tallied a team-leading 13 tackles with 2.5 for loss and two sacks in the win.

It's the first career Big 12 weekly honor for the linebacker after being named the Chuck Bednarik Player of the Week for his Oct. 8 performance in the Red Raiders' road win over Arizona.

He's the third Red Raider to win a weekly conference award after Drae McCray won the Special Teams Player of the Week on Sept. 2 and Tahj Brooks won the Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 7.

In addition to his impressive stats on Saturday, Rodriguez also forced a key fumble while matching his career-high in tackles. He set new career highs in both sacks and tackles for loss as Texas Tech won its first road game over a ranked opponent at No. 11 or higher since 2011.

Rodriguez and the Red Raiders now focus their attention on the No. 21 Colorado Buffaloes as Tech looks to win back-to-back games against ranked opponents. Related: Red Raiders Coach Joey McGuire Explains Source of Ear Stitches Kickoff is slated for 3 p.
