A recycling company has donated £65,000 to a hospice charity. Bryson Recycling, in partnership with Conwy County Borough Council and Denbighshire County Council, raised the funds through their 'Choose to Reuse' initiative. The scheme involves shops at Bryson’s Household Recycling Centres in Mochdre and Rhyl, which sell second-hand items donated by local residents.
In the past year alone, the shops have sold 260,000 items, diverting 325 tonnes of materials from landfill. The funds raised through these sales will go to St David's Hospice, which provides end-of-life care to people across Conwy, Gwynedd, and Anglesey. Alongside the donation, the initiative also provides employment to 14 staff members at the Choose to Reuse shops and helps residents buy affordable household items.
Gareth Walsh, general manager at Bryson Recycling, said: "As a social enterprise, Bryson Recycling is committed to finding more sustainable ways to deal with our waste. "When you choose to reuse, you can make a real difference – not only are you helping keep items in use longer, which benefits the environment, but you also supporting the local economy and a charity that provides vital services in our community." He also thanked everyone who has either donated or bought items at the shops, as they helped make the donation possible.
The Choose to Reuse initiative encourages residents to donate items that are too good to be disposed of. Donations can be taken to the warehouse beside the Mochdre shop entrance or given directly into the Rhyl shop. Richard Jones, head of communications, brand and marketing at St David's Hospice, added: "The work that Bryson Recycling is doing is incredible and is very much aligns with our values when it comes to sustainability.
"We are really grateful to them for choosing to donate this amazing sum to St David’s Hospice and thank all those in the community for helping to raise such an amount that will make a massive difference to our patients." Over the last five years, Bryson has donated more than £48,000 to charities across North Wales through its recycling rewards campaign, where they donate £1 to charity for every tonne they recycle. If you want to support the cause, visit the Choose to Reuse shops at Mochdre or Rhyl to donate an item or grab a bargain.
