Real Health Podcast: Eurovision, Dancing with the Stars and life lessons with Erica-Cody

I asked Erica-Cody about her sporting background and her parents. She told me, “My parents were very much into sports. My mom was an all-Ireland gymnast, squash player and then my dad was a professional basketball player who came over here in the 80s to play. So I didn't really have much of a say in the matter when it came to sports which I'm actually really grateful for because it's given me so many life lessons that I've brought into my career today.”

What did Erica-Cody learn from elite basketball? When did she start singing? And how physically challenging was Dancing with the Stars? Artist Erica-Cody joined Karl Henry on this week’s episode of the Real Health podcast. Erica-Cody I asked Erica-Cody about her sporting background and her parents. She told me, “My parents were very much into sports.

My mom was an all-Ireland gymnast, squash player and then my dad was a professional basketball player who came over here in the 80s to play. So I didn't really have much of a say in the matter when it came to sports which I'm actually really grateful for because it's given me so many life lessons that I've brought into my career today.” She is very driven and so I wanted to know how she coped with having to slow down during the pandemic as a musician.

She said, “So when COVID happened, it gave me so much clarity, because it actually allowed me to sit in what I'd been building over the last couple of years because before the pandemic everything was only getting bigger and better and there was deals on the table and then covid happened and it was like, no, straight back into your box and everyone needs to chill.” While playing in a quarterfinal for DCU Mercy, the singer tore her ACL in her knee. She explained it was tough, but every cloud has a silver lining.

She recalls, “I was like, what am I going to do with the next nine months of my life? Because rehab is mandatory, so I'm just going to throw the kitchen sink at music since this is where the universe is leading me and it just ended up being a blessing in disguise.” You can listen to the full episode here or wherever you get your podcasts.
