In an effort to participate in the political process, I signed up for Rep. Pete Stauber’s newsletter, and I emailed him with a request for information on upcoming town-hall meetings. He graciously responded and informed me I was on his list and would be notified.
On March 24, I received a phone call from an unidentified local number who left the message: “Hello, this is Congressman Pete Stauber. I was calling to invite you to a telephone town hall I’m hosting right now. I’m sorry I missed you.
That said, I wanted to let you know that I’m continuing to advance President Trump’s agenda in the House.” ADVERTISEMENT Prior to the call, I wasn’t notified via email, text, or newsletter of the meeting. I saw nothing on his website either.
Rep. Stauber’s lack of effort at sending notices of meetings seemed a passive way of avoiding confrontation with constituents while still being able to check a box that he offered a telephone town hall. There seemed to be no sincerity in having a meeting few could attend.
I hope in the future Stauber will be more diligent in his efforts to communicate and update his website in a timely manner. I don’t believe an in-person town hall will happen with Stauber. If this is the case, it may be best to write or email him.
The website 5calls.org has talking points to assist. As I learned in the nursing and correctional settings, if it wasn’t written, it wasn’t done.
So, let’s flood Stauber’s office with letters and emails and ask for written responses. It’s time to build a written record. Cathy Martin Fredenberg Township Email submissions to: letters@duluthnews.

Reader's View: Stauber's tele-town hall lacked sincerity

From the letter: "I don’t believe an in-person town hall will happen with Stauber. If this is the case, it may be best to write or email him."
