Chronic dishonesty, vengeance, cruelty, and corruption are not normal, especially for national leaders, and cannot be considered or accepted as such. It is also not normal for an elected president to need an unelected billionaire “co-president” to assist with his governing responsibilities. It’s time to unite in a declaration of the obvious, which is that the “emperors have no clothes.
” The MAGA men seem willing to sacrifice the well-being and best interests of most Americans to make themselves great and richer. It often feels like we are all bit players in a long-running and agonizing reality show. ADVERTISEMENT The words and actions of the MAGA men show no sign of a moral or ethical compass.
Their gradual dismantling of the Constitution, democratic values, rule of law, and human rights is a distressing example of hubris and leaves me with a profound sense of sadness and loss. Denying the right to free speech and efforts to silence opposition should be alarming for all of us, but not surprising since silence implies consent. Where are the wise and bold leaders unwilling to serve as lackeys? In their absence, it is critical we seek solutions calling forth the best in each of us and that we find proactive ways to stop the steal of our democracy and our country and to ensure a more equitable distribution of resources.
Let’s join in solidarity to imagine and create a better world guided by kindness, common decency, and respect for everyone. And let’s be vocal and persistent in our resistance until that world becomes a reality for all Americans. Meg Kearns Duluth Email submissions to: letters@duluthnews.
