Reader's View: Anything ‘free’ from the government is a socialist gimmick

Now, logical-thinking people would agree nothing is free.

This was a dishonest election cycle with below-the-belt assertions and statements introduced practically every day, it seemed. Wonder why we have so few quality people running for office? Anything you have said in your lifetime, it seems, whether in jest or for real, is subject to be thrown back at you, even 15 to 20 years later. You must have lived a perfect life to make it to office.

People who cast stones should check their own closets — and marital and job histories — before opening their mouths. ADVERTISEMENT Party political grandstanding statements should be evaluated. Example: one party boasted about giving "free meals" to schoolchildren and "free college tuition.

For this election, I used these principles: One, forget the noise and propaganda. Two, review the last eight years; which block of four was more satisfying to you in terms of world peace, inflation, crime control, border regulations, and personal safety? And three, review your personal value system; which candidate/party aligned itself with those values for you and your community?
