Reader Opinion: Is there mercy?

Louisiana lawmakers have approved legislation allowing judges there the option of imposing surgical castration on someone convicted of aggravated sex crimes including rape, incest and molestation of children under 13 years of age. Judges in Louisiana already had the option of chemical castration for such offenses. Sure rape, incest and molestation are heinous crimes, but isn’t there such a thing as mercy? The Psalmist writes: If you, Lord, keep account of sin, Lord, who can stand? (Psalm 130:3).
