RCTC women get win over Division I NDSCS

Kara Goetzinger had a big game as she returned from an injury Monday, helping RCTC beat Division I North Dakota State College of Science.

WORTHINGTON, Minn. — The Rochester Community and Technical College women’s basketball team picked up a signature win Monday, beating Division I junior college North Dakota State College of Science 70-68. The win avenged an early season loss to NDSCS, 66-53 on Nov.

15. ADVERTISEMENT Monday’s contest came in the Minnesota West New Years Classic. On Tuesday, RCTC plays Southwestern Community College in the tournament.



NDSCS entered the contest as the No. 24-ranked team in Division I junior college. RCTC is ranked No.

1 in Division III junior college. Kara Goetzinger had a big game for the Yellowjackets, the sophomore center from Chatfield scoring 22 points and grabbing eight rebounds. It was Goetzinger’s first game back in a month after recovering from an injury.

RCTC led by 13 points at one juncture of the fourth quarter. Macaya Copeland had 13 points and five assists for the Yellowjackets. Nyomi Crushshon had 10 points.

RCTC, which hadn’t played a game since Dec. 21, shot just 39% from the field..
