VOLLEYBALL: DEFENDING Champions Raukele Dolphins are dedicating today’s grand-final match against Kereibua in the National Club Championships hosted at the Taurama Aquatic Indoor Courts, to late Zoe Awadu who passed on last month. Fairfax Association President Patrick Morea said the grand-final was dedicated to the late Zoe, “I told all the girls that we need to dedicate this win to her and since, Saturday we went undefeated and are just waiting for the grand-final, win or lose we are here to defend the title and owe it to the late Zoe Awadu.” Raukele have been the defending champions since the inception of the Club Championships in 2018.
Coach Nuga Dick said they are looking forward in defending their title for the third time this year, “this grand final will be without the late Zoe Awadu who plays the sixth position and will be replaced by our young player Marcia Andrew and she is a good player like Zoe.” Dick said the team went undefeated in their round robin games and beat Vabukori’s Vigirage team, 3 sets to nil to claim their spot in the grand-final. He added that their win depended on good players like Philo Ameisa, PNG blocker Perpetua Awadu, spiker Theresa Fagau, and new blocker Kimberely Geberi.
For the men’s side they have made the semi-finals today and will be going up against Taikone Laumas, “so it’s going to be a good game for us again, 2018-19 our Raukele team didn’t play in the grand-finals because they lost in the semis but tomorrow’s (today) game we are looking good for our club and we will have semis against Laumas and womens side we are looking forward in defending our title for the third time.” Kereibua defeated Jugu, 3 sets to nil to secure their place at the grand-final against Raukele..
