RAUB: Raub member of parliament Chow Yu Hui is ready to cooperate with the police regarding allegations of obstructing public servants from discharging their duties during an enforcement operation against illegal durian farms here last week.Chow said he has yet to receive any instruction from the authorities to be present at the district police station to provide his statement but is prepared to assist."Nothing yet (if he was called in for questioning).
I will provide full cooperation and will provide updates when I am called by the authorities," he said when contacted.Earlier, Raub police chief Superintendent Mohd Shahril Abd Rahman said Chow, who is the first term Raub member of parliament, will be among five individuals called for questioning for allegedly obstructing civil servants during "Ops Sekat 3.0', a special operation aimed at combating illegal land encroachment activities in Raub.
He said besides the elected representative, the four others were the Save Musang King Alliance (Samka), a group representing unlicensed durian farmers in Raub, members and durian farmers, who had gathered when"Ops Sekat 3.0" was being carried out.Shahril said they will be investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum jail of two years or a fine of up to RM10,000, or both.
He advised all parties to respect the court's decision on the illegal farms and to avoid participating in any protests regarding the operation.In the incident last week, the unhappy farmers had allegedly blocked the route to the illegal orchard, with some carrying banners to express their displeasure over the enforcement operation.The police and the General Operations Force managed to bring the situation under control.
This is the second time Chow will be summoned by the police after being called in to assist investigations into a similar incident with 19 others at Sungai Ruan here on April 30 last year.Op Sekat 3.0 is a special operation to curb illegal land encroachment activities at permanent forest reserves and state land in the district.
It began on April 8 and is scheduled to end next month.Last week, Samka claimed that the enforcement operation had violated the court order, but Pahang Legal Adviser Datuk Seri Saiful Edris Zainuddin dismissed the claims, saying the operation was carried out on government land, which falls under the jurisdiction of the state government.© New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd.
